Build a Custom Cabinet — Complete Plans for Your Exact Space

You measured the spot under the stairs: 520mm wide, 400mm deep. You searched for cabinet plans online. Everything comes in 600mm or 900mm. Close enough? Not when the door hits the railing.

That's the problem with standard plans. Your space isn't standard.

Autofab's parametric designer lets you enter your exact dimensions — the system calculates every piece, every cut, every screw. You get professional plans in seconds, not hours.

Here's what the project looks like from start to finish.

Recommended Tools

The Pieces

With Autofab's plans, you get all 6 pieces calculated to the millimeter for your exact dimensions. You can cut them yourself or take the cutting diagram to your nearest cutting center — they'll follow the optimized layout and hand you the pieces ready to assemble.

Cutting Layout

The plans include an optimized nesting diagram — all 6 pieces arranged on a single 1220 x 2440mm sheet:

Optimized cutting layout — 6 pieces, 68.9% efficiencyOptimized cutting layout — 6 pieces, 68.9% efficiency

68.9% material efficiency. No math, no measuring errors. Print it and go.

Assembly

6 steps, about 60 minutes total. Here's the full process with the 3D diagrams from the plans.

Step 1 — Place the Base (~5 min)

Step 1: Base panelStep 1: Base panel

Place the base on a flat, stable surface. This is your reference — everything builds from here.

Step 2 — Right Side Panel (~10 min)

Step 2: Right side panel attachedStep 2: Right side panel attached

Align the right side panel with the base. Use a combination square to check the 90° angle before fastening. Clamp, drill pocket holes, and screw tight.

Step 3 — Left Side Panel (~10 min)

Step 3: Both side panels in placeStep 3: Both side panels in place

Repeat with the left side panel, verifying it's square with the base.

Tip: Pre-drill all pocket holes before assembly. It's faster and more accurate when you focus only on alignment.

Step 4 — Top Panel (~10 min)

Step 4: Top panel completes the boxStep 4: Top panel completes the box

Set the top over both sides and fasten. Check diagonals — they should be equal.

Step 5 — Back Panel (~10 min)

Step 5: Back panel adds rigidityStep 5: Back panel adds rigidity

Attach the back panel. This keeps the entire cabinet square and rigid. Fasten with screws every 150mm along the edges.

Step 6 — Door Installation (~15 min)

Step 6: Complete cabinet with doorStep 6: Complete cabinet with door

Install the door with soft-close inlay hinges. Use spacers to maintain the 2mm gap from the plans. The PDF includes a dedicated guide on European hinge installation.
